Xiaomi has launched its first QLED smart TV in the market.
The MI QLED TV 4K brings support for a number of HDR formats.
The new TV from Xiaomi is priced at Rs 54,999.
After keeping thing relatively safe and simple over the last two years, it appears Xiaomi has now decided to up the ante by launching its most premium offering in the Indian market to date — the Mi QLED TV 4K. The new QLED TV offers high-end features and hardware inside a premium looking enclosure which also brings 6 speaker system housed in it.
Xiaomi claims the TV is crafted for a cinematic TV experience as it comes with support for popular HDR formats including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) along with Dolby Audio and DTS-HD. However, before the Mi QLED TV 4K becomes a hit, it will have to take on the challenge posed by competitors such as the OnePlus Q1 QLED TV and others from the likes of Samsung, LG and TCL which already operate in the high-end QLED segment of the smart TV market.
Here’s what makes the Mi QLED TV a worthy competitor to these existing premium end TVs.
Mi QLED 4K TV: All about the picture quality
Arguably the biggest highlight of the new Mi TV is its expansive 55-inch QLED panel that can process video in up to 4K resolution. While it is safe to assume that Xiaomi can a bigger variant of the TV in the future, for now, the company believes this is the ideal size for its consumer base in India.
The panel here is capable of some really impressive stuff, with the Mi QLED TV 4K promising to bring with itself support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) along with Dolby Audio and DTS-HD. The panel also promises to offer saturated colours and a wider colour spectrum (100% NTSC) for improved picture quality.
The new Mi TV also brings with itself support for the company’s proprietary Vivid Picture Engine which is tuned to deliver “rich and real-world detail and texture.” As mentioned above, this is supplemented by the support for a number of HDR formats along with the Reality Flow feature which offers a smooth, blur-free viewing experience while watching sports or playing video games.
Mi QLED TV 4K: What’s the design like?
While the display is definitely the centerpiece, Xiaomi also appears to have given a lot of thought to the design of the TV. The expansive 55-inch display of the Mi QLED TV 4K is fitted inside an aluminum alloy frame that’s sand-blasted and engraved with laser precision. There’s also a carbon finish all around the back for improving the looks of the TV. Additionally, the new MI TV also looks appealing to the eye because it features a near bezel-less horizon display which flaunts a 96 per cent screen to body ratio.
Mi QLED TV 4K: Goes big on sound
While panel quality and design of the TV helps make it stand out, Xiaomi has also equipped the TV with very capable speakers. This is because it features the company’s first 6 speaker set-up, which includes 4 full-range drivers and 2 tweeters. These speakers promise rich sound because they offer support for frequency ranges that can go as low as 60Hz and all the way up to 20KHz for powerful bass and clear highs. In total, the speaker system manages to delivers a total power of 30Watts. To enhance the cinematic experience of the TV, Xiaomi has also added support for Dolby Audio and DTS-HD.
Mi QLED TV 4K: Specifications, and other features
Xiaomi’s new TV comes ready with the company’s PatchWall OS. Interestingly, the version this particular TV runs is based on Android TV 10 out of the box — which also happens to be the first time we are seeing Android 10 for TV in India.
Additionally, it also brings with itself three next-gen HDMI 2.1 ports that can run next-gen consoles out of the box. And talking about gaming, if you’re looking to get the TV for gaming, then the Mi TV should be of interest to you as it also offers an extremely low input lag of just 5ms while running at 4K 60fps. Bringing all the software features to life is a MediaTek quad-core chipset with an A55 processor coupled with Mali G52 graphics.
Mi QLED 4K TV: Aggressive pricing
The Mi QLED TV 4K is the most premium smart TV offering launched by the company to date in India, and that’s something you also see in the price of the device. However, in its attempts to create a high-end product, Xiaomi thankfully did not forget to keep the pricing within competitive levels.
In fact, a quick look at the competition out there will tell you that Xiaomi has in fact managed to price the TV quite favourably to what already exists in the market from television makers such as Samsung, LG, Sony which operate at a higher price point than what Xiaomi has entered with its new TV. In fact, such is the pricing of the TV that it even looks favourable when compared to QLED TVs from OnePlus and TCL which operate at a more aggressive price point in the QLED Tv market.
At Rs 54,999, the MI QLED TV 4K looks like a solid offering on paper and is all set to go on sale from December 21 via Mi.com, Mi Home, Flipkart and retail stores. If you do plan to buy the TV, we suggest holding on to a thought for a little longer and wait for our full review of the TV which will come out next week.
