Mumbai businessman stabbed over 15 times, dies; killer absconding
A Mumbai-based businessman and builder, Abdul Munaf Shaikh, was stabbed to death early morning on Monday. The 55-year-old was stabbed more than 15 times at the gate of a mosque by an unidentified accused.
Police have obtained CCTV footage and are searching for the accused. The Crime Branch is doing a parallel investigation, and has launched a hunt to nab the killer.
Police suspect that business rivalry might be the reason behind the murder, but they are open to other possible angles too, said sources.
Abdul Munaf Shaikh owned company ‘Al Sofi Group’, a manpower consultancy company which has been operating for years now.
He was also a builder. One of his SRA projects is underway. According to an official, Abdul Munaf Shaikh was “very particular” about morning Namaaz.
He usually offered morning Namaaz at Irla Masjid, Andheri West. The official said that police are investigating the sequence of the murder with the help of the CCTV footage.
The CCTV clip shows that the accused was present in the mosque lane even before Abdul Munaf Shaikh’s arrival.
When Abdul Munaf Shaikh reached the mosque the accused stabbed him with a sharp weapon.
He stabbed Abdul Munaf Shaikh on his head, back, chest and stomach before fleeing the spot.
Abdul was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. A case has been registered against the accused.
A police officer from Juhu police station said, “We have registered a case under IPC Section 302. We have detained some people. We are also going through CCTV footage to identify accused. Business rivalry cannot be ruled out.”
