Delhi: IPL betting racket busted, 4 arrested
The staff of Police Station Kalkaji, South-East Delhi Police has arrested four accused persons who were allegedly involved in betting over the Indian Premier League (IPL) and other sports events.
The accused have been identified as Akash Jaswani, Kunal Kalra, Chetan Gandhi and Kunal Gandhi. Police have recovered eight mobile phones, a laptop, two notepads, three pens, and Rs 93,000 cash from their possession.
Based on secret information, on the intervening night of 28 and 29 September, a team was constituted and accordingly a raid was conducted at Fab Hotel, Nehru Enclave Kalkaji where the four persons were betting on an IPL match.
When police raided their room, they were busy in betting and recording the bets of punters on notepads and were subsequently apprehended.
During sustained interrogation of the accused, it was revealed that they were running a sports gambling racket of betting on IPL matches and other sports events. They used to contact their friends by different mobile phones and bet on IPL matches and different events.
The recovered notebooks used for recording bets revealed that more than 50 people were betting on that match through these bookies.
Further investigation is being carried out about the people betting through these bookies.
